My lease on my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is coming to an end on April 2, 2009. I was planning on getting another Jeep, but Chrysler Financial stopped doing leases as of August 1, 2008. Since I only lease my cars, I decided to go with a Nissan instead.I just made my last lease payment to Chrysler Financial to fulfill my contract. However, to my surprise, I found out that I still owe $425. I called Chrysler Financial to find out what this extra ‘fee’ was for. I was told that since I didn’t lease or buy another Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge, I had to pay a $425 disposition fee.
I stated that I knew nothing about this fee and asked why the dealership never informed me before I signed the contract. All they said was that they were sorry that no one told me but if they told everyone about the disposition fee, they wouldn’t sell any cars.
Then I was told that it was my fault for not reading the contract close enough. One guy I spoke with said, “You must not lease cars very often because every dealership/company has a disposition fee.” The Nissan that I just leased is my sixth car and I have NEVER heard of nor have I paid a disposition fee! (FYI: I called Nissan, Toyota and Honda and NONE of these companies have a disposition fee!)
In the end, I will have no choice but to pay the $425 disposition fee since it was stated in a binding contract, I signed it and I refuse to let it affect my credit. However, it is NOT going to stop me from running my mouth, letting everyone know about the shady business practice Chrysler Financial is conducting! I know I may only be one person, but word of mouth is powerful and I intend to inform as many people as I can so they don’t make the same mistake I did!

1. Written by Connie, on 20-03-2010 16:23 I have purchased/leased Chrysler products since 1966. My husband fell off the porch Dec 26 and died. I am handicapped and Chrysler did not have a vehicle to help me. WE looked for cars all summer. I am paying weekly re the $450 and the harassment is awful. today, Sat, I received a call and was told an attorney would call next. I have excellent credit, am paying weekly. I think it is a rip off, but am paying what I owe. But am extremely upset regarding the harassment. I can't get my life insurance money until the coroner gives me a death certificate............honestly, there will never be another Chrysler in my driveway. We the taxpayers bailed them out, but my little weekly payments don't mean a thing.
2. Written by dissappointed, on 20-03-2010 12:58 This fee is a serious rip off. Chrysler will go out of business completley becuase of practices like this. I will never consider a Chrysler again. I paid my monthly amounts. Now they tell me this is to recondition the car for resale. Isnt that what the used car sale margin is for?
3. Written by Mike, on 26-02-2010 23:45 Reading some of the comments here I'm guessing someone from Chrysler must have jumped in to set the record straight and to that I say give it up and let's think about a class action suit. I LIKE THAT A LOT! Chrysler is getting what they deserve. We need to let Chrysler go away forever.
4. Written by Mike, on 26-02-2010 23:38 I too have just turned in a 2006 Jeep and have gone through the same crap with Chrysler Financial and their disposition fees. They are an arrogant bunch of A..Holes and thankfully under NO CIRCUMSTANCE will I ever deal with them again! And yes they do need to be shut down. They are part of a big problem with the way the US car manufacturers are doing business and quite frankly it stinks.
5. Written by whatever, on 21-02-2010 11:24 It is the dealerships job to disclose this information to the consumer up front. "Educated Consumer" you must work for chrysler financial. The guy that we leased our car from stated that upon inspection that if there is no damage to our car that chrysler would wave that fee, big lie! He never stated we would owe a diposition fee. Another family member leased a car from chrysler and was given the same line of crap. Is that our fault? I don't think so!
6. Written by Pissed Former Jeep Driver, on 17-11-2009 22:49 Buddy! I hear ya... I read the contract. Chrysler refused to lease me a vehicle at the lease termination as they were "Out of the leasing business due there inability to secure credit"..... so....they can decide to not lease but want my $$$$ for not leasing from them???? They pulled out not me…….Sounds like OBAMA Math to me!!!!!!!
7. Written by I Work @ Chrysler...and this i, on 17-11-2009 22:41 We leased 2 Liberties and @ lease turn-in, just prior to the Chrysler Bankruptcy, the dealer stated they had no ability to "Lease anyone a vehicle”. I have an e.mail to that affect from the Dealer. Chrysler Financial still wants there $, after refusing to lease us a vehicle. Anyone with knowledge of a class action on the “Disposition Fee Scam”, please post it here! (Now driving a BMW and refusing to pay the 900 in fees)… ![]()
8. Written by ZINA, on 26-10-2009 23:04 In fact I have not charged by Honda this disposition fee. I just received a charge of $400.00 disposition fee almost two months after I returned my SONATA to the dealer. They charged tax on the $400 totaling $424. This did happen to me with Chrysler but was on the time of returning the vehicle ($300) but with NO TAX. It looks that these companies want to close out their businesses. ![]()
9. Written by Sunflower, on 02-10-2009 08:07 Despite what all of you have written, this disposition fee amounts to extortion. The fee is waived only if you "lease" another vehicle, but then an additional disposition fee is added to the next vehicle and this goes on and on. What is needed here is a class action lawsuit against Chrysler Financial. BTW I did read my contract, signed it and then it was taken back to the managers office, then and only then was I given a copy in which the $425 fee had been added. Please note I had already signed the contract without the fee - the fee was added after signing. I would not have leased this vehicle had I known of this extortion fee. Anyone want to join me in a lawsuit?
10. Written by JOE, on 08-09-2009 18:54 I feel your pain, i have the same problem, acceept i did lease another car from chrysler before my lease was up and they refuse to waive the 425 fee becouse i leased another car before my other lease was up, so therefore i have 850 in fees for 2 cars, i will never buy another chrysler, dodge or jeep again...... beaware read your contract....
